Review: 2016 Kia Sorento

2016 Kia Sorento SX-L

The 2016 Kia Sorento hit the dealership earlier this month, and it’s already one of our top selling vehicles. The new design is great, and changes to the mechanics of the car make it the most comfortably riding Kia of all-time.  These Sorentos are leaving the dealership faster than we can bring them in right now, so don’t hesitate to see one for yourself today!

So What’s New?

In a word, everything. The 2016 Kia Sorento is a full redesign over last year’s model. The styling is the first thing that really stands out in this year’s model. It takes a more nature-inspired look, complete with a taller, bolder stance, and what Kia calls a “Edigness and rugged personality.”

There is an all-new wider front grille with bolder, aggressive front LED headlights. The new four-squared fog light design is eye-catching and innovative — we don’t see that on any other SUV of its class. There are also four new alloy wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches, depending on your trim.

Then climb inside for a new sophisticated interior with more premium and soft touch material than ever before. It just feels like a more quality vehicle inside, thanks those new premium materials found on the steering wheel, in the doors and on the center console. The seat fabric also lends itself to more quality than ever before.

Longer, Taller

Kia says the new Sorento is at least 3.1 inches wider and right around half an inch taller. It’s also slightly longer than previous models, which means cargo volume increases to 74 cubic feet. In its three-row configuration, the Sorento increases to 11 cubic feet of cargo space when all the seats are upright. The new Sorento also features a more easy-to-use cargo configurations, so you can fold some seats down to store luggage while still leaving space for additional passengers.

A Better, Quieter Ride

While there are plenty of visual changes to this year’s models, there are also plenty of changes you don’t see that make the Sorento a better vehicle. The new model is made from an advanced high strength steel with additional structural reinforcements that give the Sorento a more rigid feel, leading to more comfort and confidence behind the wheel. Other improvements that you’ll never see make the Sorento one of the quietest SUVs on the road today.

In fact, all these improvements have helped the Sorento earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick. For the first time ever, the Sorento earned the top score of good in the front small overlap test that simulates what happens when a car collides with a pole or tree.

Safety First

As a Top Safety Pick, it’s no wonder that the Sorento uses a number of innovative technologies to make for a safer ride. For the first time ever, the Sorento comes with driver aids such as: vehicle stability management, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and surround view monitor.

Get the Sorento in standard front wheel drive or available All Wheel Drive. When equipped with all wheel drive and a new V6 engine, the Sorento can now tow up to 5,ooo pounds.

The Fun Part

Kia rose to the top of the industry by making fun vehicles. This Sorento is no different. The all-new UVO system in this year’s model features an available Google Send-To-Car application. Use the map on your smartphone, tablet or laptop and send it directly to the navigation system inside your Sorento. Or use the Pandora App to play your favorite online radio stations. The new Sorento has also partnered with Yelp to find the best restaurants, businesses and special events in your area.

The Sorento also comes standard with features like Bluetooth, backup camera, push button ignition and heated side mirrors.

Of course as you climb the trims, you can get features like a panoramic sunroof, heated leather seats, power liftgate and push button ignition.

There are nine exterior color choices on the new model with a number of different interior choices as well.

Like all Kias, this one comes standard with a ten year, 100,000 mile warranty.

A number of technology options make the Kia Sorento one of the most fun SUVs on the road today.

What Others Are Saying

“Regardless of which engine is powering your Sorento, you’ll appreciate the accurate, linear steering. This surprised us not because it was so spectacular, but more so because it represents a dramatic improvement from Kia’s steering efforts of just a few years ago. All day, whether it was hurtling into the occasional sharp turn, following the sloping mountain roads, or just making a right-hander in the city, the steering was intuitive, and did what it was supposed to. And with slick roads taking the brunt of a massive storm, the confidence-inspiring DynaMax AWD never wavered. Furthermore, despite the poor condition of some of the roads, the suspension and newly revised chassis seemed well prepared to handle road imperfections, making for a smooth, comfortable ride.”

 The Car Connection:

“From the driver’s seat, it’s easy to feel that there’s been major improvement in the way this reengineered model responds and performs. Steering is much-improved versus the previous Sorento, and previous Kias in genreal, and in particular there’s better tracking on center, plus better brake feel, a suspension that keeps a firm, composed ride, and an all-new body structure that’s far stiffer, with more than double the high-strength steel.”

Consumer Reports:

“The new Sorento is a distinct step up in terms of ride comfort and quietness. This is a family-friendly vehicle that offers a lot of functionality in a handy size that’s easy to maneuver.”

Kelley Blue Book:

With a compelling array of features, style, and creature comforts, it’s a safe bet the new Sorento’s status as a Kia tentpole remains secure.

The Sorento is the first 2016 model to hit the Waikem Kia lot. If you want to be one of the first drivers anywhere to see this SUV, we encourage you to get your eprice now and visit Waikem Kia to see why this is such a great choice for next vehicle.
